Vetter Classic Lifting Bags — 1 bar

The original Vetter rescue bag — 40+ years proven. Internal stabilising straps prevent bulging. Anti-slip dimples for soft ground. Safe for thin-walled lorries, vans and aircraft.

Vetter Feuerwehrtechnik GmbH — Germany

Vetter's classic 1-bar lifting bag has been the trusted choice of fire services for over 40 years. Manufactured in Germany with consistent handcraft quality, these bags deliver reliable, large-area lifting with minimal risk of damage to thin-walled structures. EN 13204 certified.

The 1-bar bags stand out for their excellent lifting height and wide, even pressure distribution — ideal where you need to raise a large structure gently without concentrating load. Sold as complete 2-bag sets in 4 capacity ratings. Their anti-slip dimples maintain hold on wet, sandy or soft ground throughout the lift.

Why Choose the Classic 1-Bar Series?

When Vetter introduced the classic 1-bar lifting bag in the 1970s, it became the standard rescue airbag for fire services worldwide — and has remained so for over 40 years. The low 1-bar (14.5 psi) working pressure is the defining characteristic: it allows the bag to expand to a very large size and a very significant lifting height without the restraining effect that higher pressure imposes on the envelope.

The result is a bag that lifts gently and spreads load across a large footprint — critical when working under thin-walled structures (van bodies, bus floors, aircraft fuselages) that would be punctured or deformed by the concentrated contact pressure of a small, high-pressure bag. The Set 1/13 at 81 cm maximum lifting height can raise a vehicle significantly higher than most high-pressure bags of any size — particularly valuable when creating access space for victim extrication.

Very low insertion height
Only 22 mm insertion height — slides under vehicles with near-zero ground clearance.
Maximum lifting height
Up to 81 cm (Set 1/13) — the highest lifting height in the Vetter range across any series.
Safe for thin structures
Large contact area distributes load — no concentrated pressure that could pierce vehicle floors or sheet metal.
Anti-slip dimple surface
Textured surface maintains grip on wet asphalt, sand, loose soil and polished concrete throughout the lift.

1-bar vs 12-bar — which to choose?

The choice between 1-bar classic bags and 12-bar S-TEC or C-TEC bags comes down to the scenario. 12-bar bags are significantly more powerful for their size and have a much smaller footprint, making them the better choice when the lifting area is constrained or a high force is needed in a small space. The classic 1-bar bags are the better choice when you need maximum lifting height, when working against thin or fragile structures that cannot tolerate high contact pressure, or when the load needs to be spread across a very wide area. Many rescue teams carry both series and select the appropriate bag at the scene.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the set designation mean — Set 1/6, 1/9, 1/13?

The number after the slash refers to the maximum lifting capacity of the pair of bags in tonnes. Set 1/6 lifts up to 6 T with both bags working together. Set 1/9 lifts up to 9 T, Set 1/13 up to 13 T, and Set 1/23 up to 23 T. Sets are sold as pairs — both bags plus a complete set of hoses, a deadman controller and a valise carry case.

Why choose a 1-bar bag over a 12-bar S-TEC?

The 1-bar bags offer two advantages that 12-bar bags cannot match: maximum lifting height (up to 81 cm vs around 52 cm for the largest S-TEC), and very low contact pressure across a large surface area. The low contact pressure makes them the correct choice when working under thin-walled vehicles — van bodies, bus floors, aircraft fuselages — where a small, high-pressure bag would concentrate load and potentially puncture or deform the structure. Many departments carry both types for different scenarios.

What air supply is needed for 1-bar bags?

Each set includes a pressure regulator that steps down from 200 or 300-bar compressed air cylinders to the 1-bar operating pressure. Standard fire service breathing air cylinders are suitable. The bags can also be inflated from a vehicle air supply via the appropriate adaptor. The Vetter 1-bar deadman controller (included in each set) provides safe, precise inflation control throughout the lift.

Can 1-bar bags be used under aircraft?

Yes — Vetter 1-bar bags are widely used in aircraft recovery operations. The low 1-bar operating pressure and large contact area mean they apply force gently across the fuselage skin, frame, or undercarriage area without concentrated point loading. This is a key advantage over high-pressure designs for airframe-critical applications. For aircraft recovery, consult the aircraft manufacturer's maintenance manual for approved jacking and recovery points before deploying any lifting bag.

Are Vetter 1-bar bags EN 13204 certified?

Yes. All Vetter 1-bar classic lifting bag sets are certified to EN 13204, the European standard for pneumatic lifting bags used in rescue operations. They are CE marked and manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management at Vetter's facility in Germany.
